Gorgeous Green Matcha Fertility Juice

Sue Bedford (MSc Nutritional Therapy)

All of the ingredients in this juice work together to provide a nutritious punch that not only gives us energy and hydrates us, but also contains antioxidants that support the immune system and contains anti-inflammatory properties too.

Pineapple -is a good source of vitamin c, manganese and iodine too. Pineapples contain the anti-inflammatory enzyme Bromelain important for conditions such as Endometriosis. Bromelain has an anticoagulant effect – so great for blood flow too. In studies the high manganese content found in pineapple has been linked to improving sperm motility.

Matcha – adds a lovely colour and taste to this juice and also contains special types of plant flavonols called Catechins, of which the most abundant is Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG). Catechins contain antioxidants – recent research has shown that one cup of matcha has 100 times the antioxidants compared to green tea (and green has about double the levels found in black tea). The powerful Catechins provided by Matcha reduces the production of free radicals and, as a result, helps to protect the DNA of our cells, including that of the egg and sperm cells (anti-ageing).

Green apples– packed full of plant chemicals, including the flavonoid Quercetin which has anti- inflammatory action. Apples are low in calories, a great source of vitamin c and potassium and also contain pectin, a ‘soluble’ fibre that can help to lower ‘bad’ cholesterol.

Ginger – contains antibacterial properties along with anti-inflammatory compounds. Great for giving shots a kick and also to help alleviate gastrointestinal issues. Ginger plays a role in reducing inflammation in the body, supporting the immune system, rejuvenating skin and increasing energy levels. It also contains anti- microbial properties. Ginger contains many important nutrients and vitamins including vitamin C, B5 and B6, along with a good amount of the minerals’ potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium.

Celery– contains a plant compound called apigenin, which has been found to possess anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral properties. It is great for hydration, low in calories and a great source of vitamins A, C and K.

Spinach -also provides a good amount of vitamin e, along with folate, vitamin c, vitamin A and iron.

Lemons – are abundant in vitamin C and flavonoids, both powerful antioxidants, important in preventing free radical damage to cells, supporting the immune system, for skin health, increasing iron absorption from food, weight loss and the prevention of scurvy.

Pears – are a great source of polyphenol antioxidants – helping to ‘zap’ those free radicals which may lead to oxidative stress and cell damage. They are low in calories and are a great source of folate, vitamin C, copper, and potassium.
